Johannah wrote her first song in seventh grade and played it on the piano at a school concert in front of a large crowd of parents and teachers. Her feet could barely reach the pedal, but she didn't mind. She knew then that she was meant to write poems and songs. Though she was not sure what her future would look like, she understood that writing would be an important part of her life. Since then Johannah has kept a daily journal. Some of her entries have become songs. Some have stayed tucked inside the pages to be read only by her and God.
As Johannah got older and more confident, she began to share her songs with family and friends. She was encouraged to pursue a path in songwriting and singing. It wasn't until college that she started singing in public with a traveling group of church kids. Then in 1994, Johannah joined the worship team at her church in Maui and began to sense God calling her to a ministry of music. When she married and moved back to Bridgton in 1995, she joined a local band called the Fragile Hearts Band. Even though the band stayed together for just a year, it was in this group where she learned team dynamics and the importance of practicing piano and her vocals. She desired to be excellent in her giftings.
In 1998, Johannah produced her first album with a friend in Nashville. It was comprised of five songs taken from pages of her journal. the album became a regional bestseller. Many people expressed how moved they were by the album. That was all Johannah needed to take her next step. In 2000, she began working with a producer on her second album, this time featuring ten songs. In December of 2001, "If Ever" was released and Johannah hopes it brings joy and courage to those who listen.
There is a depth that Johannah possesses that's not often seen in artists. Her vocals and lyrics seem to reach the very heart of the listener. Her inspiration comes from a deep well of faith and the mystery of Christ living in her. It is her desire to use the gifts God has given to encourage believers, to share the gospel with those who don't know Jesus yet, and in all things, to give glory to God.
